When talking about a championship though, particularly with a less experienced driver, why go through the expense of Stars etc.
The NKRA championship equally results in a national number, doesn't have the same travelling cost and costs £40 to enter. With Scottish, Northern and Southern components it has genuine national coverage.
Some people complain that it doesn't have enough entrants in some classes, but that is a chicken and egg situation. It is certainly better to compete there if you are on a 'normal' budget than against teams who race every weekend, practise mid-week and have rebuilt engines and new tyres every time they hit the track.
Even Lewis Hamilton admitted that a large part of his driving success lay in the fact that he spent so much time on a track that he needed a private tutor to make up the lost school time.
