It was removed because a lot of the riders didn't want to have to race it as part of a championship, Barry Sheene refused to go there. So they voted with their feet, or threatened to. Now it is a race that features riders who want to be there, you don't even get the Superbike teams racing there like they used to, (DJ and Hislop used to get a seasons national racing on the back of doing the TT). Again in the 70s a lot of the riders got together led by Kenny Roberts and threatened to form a breakaway championship because circuits were dangerous and pay was non-existent....they were going to vote with their feet. So now the TT stands alone as an event with only riders that want to be there. If I was going to ride in the TT I'd accept that Death is a possiblilty....I wouldn't do it, we don't want to stop other people having that choice though.
