The concept of public service broadcasting is out dated and the BBC should not be charging TV receiver owners to produce one of the world's largest content websites [for the consumption by the world not the UK], to publish most programmes on an iPlayer to those with an internet connection... and to support one of the most wasteful bureaucracies in this country.
If the core value of the BBC is its news and current affairs... then make it a subscription service for consumption on whatever media it is available... maybe that will crystalize their thinking on efficiency when sending 40 reporters and newsreaders halfway around the world to cover the Chilean miners' release.
Public service broadcasting had value when that channel was the only place people received their news, entertainment and 'education'. That's no longer the case.
