I don't think you've thought this through
There are many OTHER 'necessities'; if you are right about applying a 'flat price' to one.... why not all the others. Would you 'standardise' the price of:-
Bread Water Heating Etc..?
Again, taking your logic to its 'logical conclusion'.... you can't USE petrol/diesel WITHOUT having a car/bike/van/lorry/etc.. Therefore, your view, applied consistently, would mean there should a be a 'standard price' for cars, Motorbikes, Lorries and Van..... one price for EACH of those classes.
Now.... you may think my examples are unfair. It's now YOUR task to explain WHY they are unfair and explaining why Petrol/Diesel is the ONLY example of a 'necessity' which needs your fixed pricing.
The process used in this country is CAPITALISM! I suspect you like its benefits...... but THAT means you also have to suffer some of its HARDSHIPS, too!
There is the 'other side' of this 'coin'. Why the HELL should **I** pay HIGHER Prices for Fuel here in the south east JUST to help those in the North of Scotland.??? I will be happy to so that the very DAY that we standardise the prices of HOUSES between the 'regions' as well..... That's a MUCH higher 'necessity'. I don't notice you asking for THAT!
However.... you MAY think those other ideas seem reasonable...... I'd then have to say that these ideas were applied in another 'culture'... that of many supposedly communist countries. It'll be harder producing a valid argument for THAT culture....
