For the same reason that I'd be concerned about ONE person:
* scrounging off the state * not paying road fund tax * avoiding their income tax * graffiti-ing signs * smoking drugs etc. etc.....
The tiny FRACTION of the 'damage' (to society) done by any one person doing any of the above is LITERALLY insignificant.
However, even though each of those is similarly insignificant... I trust YOU'D object to even ONE person doing them... just like I do!
It's not because you can FEEL the effect in your wallet/environment of a SINGLE person doing THOSE things, is it?
You would object because:
A) the PRINCIPLE of things being plain UNFAIR B) if LOADS of people did it, then you WOULD be able to feel it!
That is utterly IDENTICAL to my reasons for object to people NOT voting! I can't notice ONE person not voting but I object to it for EXACTLY the same reasons: it ain't FAIR and, if more than ONE person does it, I WOULD be able to notice it!
However, while I exclude YOU from the following, I am getting more and more convinced that those who DON'T vote are doing us all a favour..... they'd only vote for something stupid or for some stupid REASON if they DID vote.... so perhaps we ARE better off WITHOUT their votes!
