Rich...... you miss the points.....
1) FUN while driving with the vehicle 'sliding' has ALWAYS been illegal! Check your highway code. Firstly, it says NOTHING about driving being FUN..... and it ONLY mentions how to CONTROL a skid that has 'surprised' you.... it does NOT suggest that 'sliding' is some sort of GAME of the road to be indulged on whim.... 'becasue it's FUN!'
2) You try defend Lewis becasue (you suggest) he MAY have been in a safe location. That would indicate that you would NOT defend him if he was, for example, in a crowded area when he did it. Do you feel the police would ahave booked him in the pits.... the track..., the paddock...?
He did it on the ROAD, in a CITY, on a GP weekend.... where he was the Centre of Attention. There must have been SOMEONEW to see him.... a POLICEMAN!
Out of interest, here's the spot:-
Junction of Lakeside Drive and Fitzroy Street

...... have look...... and remember, this is a FRIDAY EVENING on a GP weekend.......!
2) You would prefer that GFM fired into the air.... 2)a) errr.... would you REALLY defend GFM who fired guns into the air while leaving Bisley? I accept, that 'into the air' was BETTER than 'near the crowd' but would even THAT be ok??? Give us an answer...... 2)b) BUT..... we are NOT talking about someone who CAN'T^ fire safely..... any more than we are talking about a DRIVER who can't |DRIVE safely near crowds. My GFM is EQUALLY as safe as Lewis whereever he chooses to fire! It's YOU who is taking the same stance about GFM as I am taking about Lewis..... except YOU are trying to use it as an argument to claim that Lewis WAS safe..... that doesn't hold-water!
