Why do you ask?
I was smitten by Lotus as a kid seeing them raced at Snetterton and Brands with all the GREATS at the wheels.
I bought my first one when I was 19 (Lotus 7 Series 1, 1172 side valve.... previously raced by John Derisley...... etc., etc.). This came about after seeing The Prisoner as a kid. I dreamt of driving a Se7en into that 'car park' tunnel and reving the motor.... and it sounded EXACTLY as beautiful as in the programme. I have done that drive with each one I have owned (7 Lotus 7s..... so far) and I still get a chill up the spine doing it, even in a Caterham. I have banged my fist on the table MANY times in 'homage', too!
I followed Jim Clark and Jochen Rindt as a kid, saw Ronnie driving karts and them met him a number of times at the Lotus factory, had dinner with him, Tony Rudd AND Colin (himself) and Hazel on a number of occasions; was a Lotus dealer for 3 years back in the mid 1970's and have owned 19 Lotuses (so far) overall...
Any suspicion that I might be Sjust LIGHTLY biased.....?
And when you own one, you'll get hooked, too! If yopu haven't, go and drive a simple Elise and the scales will fall from your eyes!
