I agree 100% with this initiative - something has to be done about 250 National tyres for short circuit. Over the last 3 years there have been nothing but problems with the 5" Maxxis slicks for 250N, especially since the introduction of the MH tyres. For significant periods of time these are simply unavailable in the UK and clubs/drivers are faced with either using old XP5 tyres (no longer allowed for MSA racing) or not racing. This has even happened for rounds of Super 4. Also, for some reason the current MH tyres have a much smaller diameter than the originals - so much so that the gearing has to be altered and the rear disk scrapes on the ground when passing over minor track undulations.
The solution seems very simple - adopt the same tyre regs as per long circuit that have been in place for many years with no problems: 5" or 6" rims, tyres from multiple suppiers etc. This would mean no need to have two completely different sets of rims & tyres (both wets and slicks) for long circuit and short circuit and no need for significant changes in chassis set-up. From personal experience I would say tyre problems have definitely contributed to the decline in 250N on short circuits.
