Go cadet straight away...... worked for us.
Don't buy super cheap as you'll end up buying again. Ideally get something 2017 as it's the latest homolgation, designed for the current tyres which changed this year (although the need for that is a big discussion point).
4 main options for hondas The safe bet... Synergy not the outright fastest but easy to setup and allows any driver to achieve.... sometimes beyond their ability
Project one.... strong and reliable, a good starter
BRK... good strong quick kart
Zip... arguably the fastest chassis, if the driver has the driving ability and you can get it in the sweet window. Historically a bit more fragile but you'd trade that for the outright pace that can be found.
All the 4 are good so just look what most are on so you can copy setups etc.
Synergy could be the simple choice but then if you want the driver to learn how to work a kart and get the most out of their ability it could be zip....... most likely you will go with a synergy or p1.
Oh...engines, get something reliable and get your lad to learn how to drive......don't strap on a monster engine until he's learnt the craft and can do the job.... then bolt it on and make it easier for him..
Good luck
