Agreed: simple accounting, so it should be easy to show (a) how much extra has been paid by competitors; (b) VAT; (c) money used for grant funds; and (d) prize money. a = b+c+d, doesn't it?

Also agreed: competitor apathy allows this situation to develop.
However, the ABkC's rules are designed to actively prevent competitor involvement and the MSA chooses to support this.
Unless either the ABkC is prepared to embrace change (which appears a very remore possibility); or competitors start actively taking an interest; or the MSA commits to its new value of transparency and recognises an alternative body - then CW's prediction looks spot on...
Competitors who do nothing to get their club to try to reflect their views simply cannot whinge about the situation and where it takes them.
