I was involved with the initial meetings about this seat at the FIA. I don't think they are safer. If you see the video's of crashes involving the high seat the kart keeps rolling like a ball 6 or 7 times until it hits the fence. The test showing the rollover in slow motion using a dummy shows the driver hitting the floor and the headrest following up like a battering ram, hitting the floor right by the driver’s neck. It is one of those occasions where they have gone so far down the road they want it to come in whether it is right or wrong. I believe it is wrong. I could earn money out of this rule but I do not think it is right for karting. Keep the weight of the karts down, make the track barriers safe, this will do far more for safety. Best regards Steve Tillett
